I guess Tamer is an early favourite. He's already known here.

And my first impression is, that the girls this year are really boring.

So far, Tamer hasn't done anything worth mentioning. Almost everyone else has been more actively involved in the discussions and interactions. (OK, he has tried suggesting things a couple of times but seems not to possess the kind of charisma that would hold people listening to him for too long if there are any other distractions that might divert their attention elsewhere. Maybe it's his frail high-pitched voice?)

I think this year's house is easily the best or the 2nd best of Finnish BB houses - depending on what kind of design you appreciate.

Also, the casting seems fairly promising right now - could easily turn out to be great as well, but we'll need to wait and see. Airheaded teenage party queens and wannabe tabloid celebs seem to be missing this year which is only a good thing. The distinctive thing about this year is there are several single mothers as housemates.

The "nest" in the house has already seen some use as an isolated, "confidential" discussion space for groups of two or three people. The housemates like this feature of the house a lot.

A quick rundown of first impressions:

Janica - an attractive 30-year-old single mother, daytime an accountant, evenings and weekends a strip-tease dancer. Seems bright and lively, even though went to bed early on the first night.

Oskar - a male pornstar-turned-engineer, or the opposite way, or both at the same time, and he's aspiring to be a politician as well - seems generally like a nice guy (his physical habitus is that of a stereotypical skinny engineer type, despite his career in porn) and will probably become the trusted resident logical thinker of the house if he survives a couple of evictions.

Stefan - think of Shrek or something. A good-natured male giant (his weight must be something like 150 kg) with a deep, rough, muffled voice. Sometimes it's a bit hard to make out what he says, but he participates in conversions often. The girls of the house seem to approach him easily, they apparently see him more as a mascot or a father figure rather than a threat of any kind.

Salar - an Iranian-born, a bit chubby male who immigrated to Finland with his family as a kid. Speaks excellent native-level Finnish with no accent. Seems like a nice guy, a self-proclaimed "people person".

Terhi - a female with distinctive looks: dyed red rasta hair, lots of piercings, implants and ofter body modifications. Seems OK as a person this far.

Sebastian - the Bible thumber of this crowd. Seems generally like an OK guy, pretty smart. Doesn't normally drink, or at least not enough for it to show. Has prayed in the house already (alone in the lounge room) and commented on the house decor which, according to him, includes "false god" motifs. (For example, the face of Buddha is one of the decor elements.)

Tamer - A Turkish travel guide who has formerly appeared in a reality show about the work of travel guides. Follows Islamic traditions, doesn't drink or eat pork, he just finished Ramadan. Apparently popular in that other show, but I've never seen him before. Has a rather distinctive high-pitched, frail voice for a male of his age. Speaks rather good Finnish but with an accent.

Minna - the vision-impaired girl. Seems nice this far but hasn't shown much of personality yet. This far we know she likes horseback riding and writing stories and lyrics. (Has not published anything.)

Tia - this could be an interesting female housemate. Seems to hold strong political and ideological opinions, has perhaps some potential for causing conflicts or maybe flipping in some interesting way.

Suvi - another female housemate who will probably cause conflicts. Loud and dominating in discussions, maybe a bit irritating at times. Seems to like her voice.

Annika - the happy-go-lucky party-oriented blond. I'm not sure if she's airheaded or secretly smart... yet.

Ben - the alpha-male wannabe. Maybe. Not sure of this one yet. A generic kind of "everyman" guy.

Mikael - the grungy hippy slacker guy. Has a religious (Pentecostalist) family background but does not consider himself a "good Christian", more like one who wants to have some fun in life. Still, says he believes in God. Seems to have a penchant for smartass remarks. Could be the one who will not put up well with the more stressful tasks.

Tanja - a generic female housemate who often dominates and steers discussions, but not in a too irritating way. Not sure of the actual personality yet. Talks a lot.

(I reserve the right to change these opinions at any time.)

Minna seems to be nearly blind. And I guess she has partly the same condition that Bono of U2 has. Her eyes can't take bright light without protection.

I think the cone cells in her retinas are missing or not functioning properly which makes her rely only on the rods (basically her night vision and you can't use that in bright light)... There's a specific term for this congenital disorder but I seem to have forgot it. Maybe there are some other vision problems too - likely a complete or near-complete lack of color perception. She says she can see some general shapes but she can't e.g. make out letters without enlarging them to huge proportions.

BrutalGentleman, I have to agree with you on the impressions now. Tamer quite quickly turned out to be a bit boring, though his conversation about religions with Sebastian was interesting. To me anyway. Though, Sebastian did most of the talking. And there are a couple of girls, that really turned out to be interesting.

My favourites ATM are Suvi, Salar and Stefan.

Suvi has previously appeared in the Finnish version of The Moment of Truth. She confessed being a bully in school. Also she confessed to had fantasies about her friend's husband. Though she didn't answer directly to the question, and therefore lost the 10.000 euros she had already won. She also confessed, that she thinks herself being more beautiful than her friend, and that she'd be embarrassed if any of her children would become overweight.

I think I don't really like her anymore after finding those things out. She's bubbly...but...

Weekly task includes electric shocks. This is the same as in BBUK9. And BB 5 Sweden did this task the same way. Only this one has a twist. They also have a shot-bar. Quite simply the HMs have an option to buy shots in the bar. One shot costs one electric shock.

The HMs have been split to 2 teams. One of the teams takes on the electrick shock track. And the other half are bound together by handcuffs. They have some certain rules, they have to follow. If the half with the cuffs fails to follow the rules given to them, the task for the  electric team will be made more difficult.

I'm not quite sure, if the bar is open only for the electric team. I'm just guessing, it is. Since the cuffed team don't have the suits.

Yes, there is:

I personally kinda like this intro...but I'm not quite sure if I love it.

what excactly are Tias  strong political and ideological opinions about?

She's skeptical of the benefits of supporting so-called "humanitarian" immigration (which in Finnish context means illiterate asylum seekers who just pop up here from 3rd world countries without papers, via human trafficking routes, and might or might not really have been persecuted in their country of origin, but are often granted a residence and may even later apply for reuniting their family in Finland) and/or multiculturalism as a socio-political ideology or as an actively pursued political goal. She supports a Finnish political party which gained a huge number of new voters in the last election and which some feel is too nationalistic.

She's also strongly pro-planned parenthood, thinking it's irresponsible to just get knocked up as a teenager and then live off of welfare with the baby. (Which might not rub some of the other housemates in a good way, them having once been teenage mothers themselves, or having been born to one.)

She sees overpopulation as one of the primary problems and concerns in the world and would rather adopt than get kids on her own. Additionally, she loves animals and has said if there's a fire in a house and she gets the choice of rescuing either a baby or a puppy, she might well rescue the puppy first, because that's just the way she is.

She does not support any further restrictions to private gun ownership. This is something that some high-profile Finnish politicians have suggested after the recent shooting incident in Norway. (She has apparently practiced some recreational hunting herself.)

Then again, in the diary room, she has expressed feeling sad/bad about how some out-of-the-norm housemates (primarily Stefan, the fat/big gentle giant, and Minna, the near-blind girl) sometimes get treated in the hous, and she has tried to be thoughtful and considerate about them herself.

During this week's task she's been a little down herself - even crying a bit silently and alone in the bedroom - for she's very afraid of the electrical shocks and pain she and her group must endure during the week. (Oskar, and a bit later Janica, noticed this and joined her in the bedroom to hug her and to cheer her up, but she's still not sure if she will be able to continue participating in the task and she's afraid they will fail their weekly assignment because of her.) Also, in the electrical shock shots bar she was the last one who dared to subject herself to the shock. It took lots of persuasion and encouragement from her housemates and multiple tries before she finally managed to bring herself to do it.

The first beta version of BBViewer, an unofficial fan-made Windows software application for viewing the Big Brother Finland 24/7 Live video streams, has been released for this season.

Here's a screenshot of BBViewer 2011 with all the six streams running simultaneously:

You can think of BBViewer as an alternative multimedia viewer application for watching the BB video streams: more handy and more elegant than having to use the offical Katsomo BB 24/7 Live web page with a clumsy web browser. The videos are displayed conveniently in a separate app window which is  independent of your web browser. You can rearrange the video panes as you see fit or pop them out into separate windows which you can pin on top in some corner of your screen.

BBViewer is free to download and use (donationware, actually) but using it requires an MTV3 Katsomo user account/password and a valid BBF2011 24/7 subscription so it's only useful for those who have subscribed to the service and paid for access. I gave instructions on that in an earlier post to this thread.

OK, Tia (discussed above) has left the house!  :(  :(  :(

That's right. She went to the diary room, announced that she wants out, returned to the house, packed her bag and just up and left... by crawling into the "Nest" and going out by entering the camera corridor via an emergency exit door!

She was heard exchanging a couple of words with someone in the corridor, but this type of exit was clearly her personal decision, not an official giving-up procedure.

She only spent 1.617 days in the BBF 2011 house, which is clearly a new Finnish BB record.

It's sad because she seemed like an interesting housemate... more interesting than many others, I'd say. :(

^ A teaser of Tia's last diary room session is available here. A longer video will apparently appear in today's daily.

In the teaser, Tia explains she's feeling distressed, anguished, and emotional all the time, doesn't feel like belonging to the crowd, can't understand all this drinking, and keeps wondering about what she's doing here when she's got her loved one and her pets back at home.

She also just can't understand how all those female housemates with underage kids are just chilling out in the house thinking their children will be "just fine". And she couldn't continue forward with the task involving those electrical shocks any longer as she simply can't take them - this would have been her 2nd day doing that, and she was already crying yesterday from the anxiety and pain. What is more, she doesn't want to be the one who would be directly responsible for them failing the weekly task.

Then she states she will leave through an emergency exit right now, and should BB try and block the exits, they'd be in big (legal) trouble, and they know it.

A replacement for Tia will enter today after Extra. Which ends 7.30 PM local time. More likely the new HM will not enter immediately after the show though.

Name - Amanda
Age - 20
Residence - Sipoo
Occupation - Hockey-DJ (ie. she plays music at ice-hockey games)
Marital status - Single

Amanda is the niece of a very known business mogul in Finland, Harry "Hjallis" Harkimo. Also, she works for Jokerit, an ice-hockey team partly owned by Hjallis. He's currently the chairman of the board at the club. Also had Hartwall Arena built. Hjallis is also know as the counterpart of Donald Trump on the Finnish version of The Apprentice.

According to the voting guide, the only difference this year would be a return to the system we had in the beginning. Meaning, viewers would vote for the HM they would like to stay and the HM with the lowest amount of votes would be evicted. At least the evict-votes seems to be history, which is good. Also it seems, that turbovoting will be in effect from the start. And of course it would also mean, there are no changes in the nomination system.

I guess it's possible these rules could change somewhere along the way.

thanks for the info, Brutal :)
I am really shocked by Tias views, somehow glad she left. I don't think its tolerable in any way. but then again its nice that she cares about others that she feels are left behind. this makes her a hypocrite. good first riddance.

^ Despite all the provocative hard talk - which she mostly did as part of her introductory speech given to the other housemates during the first night - she was already showing some soft spots. It would have been interesting to see what kind of a person will emerge when Big Brother scratches the surface a bit... and if her journey in the house would have changed her in some ways. She had a good singing voice, too, which is something you can't always say about housemates...

All in all, I would have liked her to stay longer... especially as I have a hunch Amanda - who was quickly brought in as a replacement - will not be half as interesting a character as Tia was.

(What is more, Amanda appears to be a friend of Ben's in the outside world... maybe even more than, as they're now sleeping side by side on the same bed and had a suspicious conversation at night which could even have been lover talk... The whole thing with Amanda and Ben smells a bit fishy, or maybe it's one of those "secrets" or twists promised to the viewers but realized earlier in season than originally planned. Who knows... we'll have to wait and see.)

In other news today, Minna - the girl with vision impairment - is currently outside the house, being checked by a physician, because she started feeling dizzy and ill when doing the assigned task.

(Seven housemates - Minna, Suvi, Tanja, Terhi, Salar, Tamer and Stefan - have been handcuffed as a chain of people who must do everything together, except for visits to the bathroom or to the diary room. They even have to sleep handcuffed to each other. On Wednesday night, the task was made even harder as they were not allowed to sleep but had to keep moving (walking) all the night, and could only stop for temporarily disconnecting or reconnecting a member who needs to visit the bathroom, the diary room. It was during this task when Minna began feeling ill. None of the housemates has had a proper meal since entering the house as they have not earned their first weekly budget yet. Also, many of them are a bit sleep-deprived because they had a welcome party which for many lasted until the morning, and some sleepless nights before entering the house. Right now they're sleeping sound, though. The other seven housemates were assigned with another task which is the one involving electrical shocks and which served as one of the primary reasons why Tia quit.)

Some of the secrets have been revealed as a part of a competition. The viewers have to connect a secret with a housemate. A couple of the secrets are out already, told by the housemates in question.

The secrets:

1. Erotic dancer (Janica)
2. Dated a Miss Finland finalist
3. A virgin
4. Father was a bankrobber
5. Being stabbed without noticing it
6. Porn actor (Oskar)
7. Hanging from meat hooks as a hobby (Terhi, just a wild guess)

I'm sure number 2 has come up at some point, but I'm drawing blank right now. I haven't really been paying that much attention at times.

Yeah...

Also, I think the virgin is Sebastian. Being very religious, he could well be saving himself for marriage.

Amanda and Ben seems to quite initiative. They do know each others outside the house, but they are not a couple. They told in the DR, that they will act as a couple for a couple of days. At least it seems this is their own idea. Some of the HMs already suspects, they really are a couple.

Number 2 could be Ben.
Number 7 is Terhi all right. She was discussing this with her housemates a couple of days ago and even showed the marks, or the piercings, or whatever she has on her back from/for that.

Minna has now been outside of the BB house for about 12 hours. (Still 12 more left for her... if she's coming back... the clock is ticking!)

I'm also thinking Ben for number 2.

And Minna will be coming back in a few hours, during Extra. Also the reason for her illness will be told.
