Big Brother 9 Australia
« on: September 09, 2011, 10:05:07 AM »
A 2012 version of the one-time ratings smash hit is destined for Channel Nine, the Herald Sun reported.

Rival Channel Ten sought to bid on the reborn series, titled Big Brother: Secrets, but it is understood Nine signed the deal today.
"I understand we are doing it,” a Nine source confirmed.

Nine is certain to produce the show on a smaller scale than in the past.
It is believed that Nine is also determined to let viewers know it won’t be the same old Big Brother, which slipped into ratings decline in its eighth and final season on Ten.

The new show will be marketed as Big Brother: Secrets ... every housemate has a secret."
There is no word yet on the host of the re-booted Big Brother. Gretel Killeen hosted the first seven series of the show on Ten. Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O hosted Ten’s final series before it was cancelled in 2008.

Wonder if it'll still be a Dreamworld - and hope they keep the live feed.   Will be interesting though to see how Nine handles it - I suspect it'll keep it's usual 7pm time slot as Nine have had success with The Block in that slot.

It does sound though like Endemol have basically offered the Secret Story format to Aussie broadcasters (Ten is said to have also bid) and Nine won, but opted to keep the BB name - not sure if that's a wise thing or not.

I really hope they'll change the name. For the SS format it's better to don't have "Big Brother" as nome. But l'aube they will do like on Germany... Secrets... But nominations system différent or the Secret Story format.

I think it is just keeping their options only - should it be successful and get a second series by keeping the BB name they're not restricting themselves just to the Secret Story format.

I hope they keep the Big Brother name, or maybe use a subtitle - Big Brother: The Secret Story.

Australia had 8 years of Big Brother and to abandon a well known brand name for something completely unknown is a huge risk.

VERY true, if you mention the word Secret Story no one will know what the heck it in, but if you mention that Big brother is coming to Australia gain, everyone will be hyped.

For marketing/PR/advertising reasons Big Broter should be the name. It's already stablished and for me it can work out pretty well with a nice house, an awesome casting and great way editing.
:) Live happy every day!!! <3

It's also worth noting that Big Brother seems to be rather fondly remembered down under - it kind of ended before losing any goodwill it had built up and they waited long enough so people remembered the show at the peak, not the reasons why it was axed.

I don't think they ever had any downfall (like Celebrity BB Racist Row), and while the Sex Scandal was bad, I don't think it wa AS bad, because I don't recall Camilla being THAT upset about it.

It looks almost certain that it'll air in August next year off the back of the Olympics.

I hope not. But April - June, I think it's good. Two months maybe. (Ten weeks).

Low Ratings.

I think BB8 got a series average of 800,000 viewers.

It got cancelled after their 8th series in '08, and they did a ncie break, which I think U.K should've done too.

Highly unlikely - Nine have the highly successful The Block to run in that slot.

Sonia Kruger is the new host of Big Brother Australia.   She has been the co-host of Dancing with the Stars in Australia for 2004, and from comments I've seen seems highly praised for her ability to ad lib and interact with contestants.

Here's another short vid. The song used sounds like a very slow (very slow) of the original BB AUS theme maybe they will be revamping it.
