Let's learn French & Portuguese
« on: August 11, 2015, 06:50:20 PM »
Hi everyone!! I talked this with members of this forum and as I want to move to badly to Canada and I'll need French I decided to create this topic. Someone also interested in learning can also join.

OK first thing I'm going to ask you is... as Secret Story Portugal isn't going to air this fall, you are definitely going to follow some of Secret Story France!

Your first mission is to use Hola! and watch one of the videos here : http://www.wat.tv/secret-story ! It lasts like 2 minutes ! Then tell me what you understood!

Évidemment, il y a d'autres méthodes pour t'aider à apprendre le français !
Obviously, there are other ways to help you learn French !

IL Y A UN FRUIT = THERE IS A FRUIT.
IL Y A DES FRUITS = THERE ARE FRUITS.

Maintenant va te faire foutre jusqu'à demain. Now screw you until tomorrow. :-*

I think it's  a bad idea of doing a FR / PT lessons in only one thread.

I'm lazy to create a new thread kkkk. We could make at the start of a topic clear if it's french or portuguese tbh.

I saw the link Lolo gave me, I was in the introduction thing, and it was like "tu t' apelles" but they don't pronnouce the s, same goes with t at the end

The days of the week are easy, THANK GOD it's similar to Spanish, so it's easy to remind, like lunes = lundi, martes = mandi

It must always end by "di" :)  Jeudi, vendredi, samedi.
For you age you must use the verb "to have". "I am have 15 years old". "J'ai 15 ans".

"Je" + "avoir" + present time = J'ai.
Two vowels can't have sex together. "Je ai" is just to weird to say so we delete the "e" and replace it by the apostrophe " ' ". :)

J'ai: I have.
J'essaye: I try.
Je veux: I want.

You guys have ESTAR and SER, we have only ÊTRE (TO BE).
Je suis.
Tu es.
Il/Elle est.
Nous sommes.
Vous êtes.
Ils/Elles sont.

As you already noticed, we don't pronounce the "s" and "t" when it's the last letter of a word. :) Also, we don't prononunce the "x" when it's in the end of a word lmao.
But per exemple : es is pronounced "é".

the "ê" of vous êtes is the same pronounciation as in portuguese, I believe.

PORTUGUESE LESSON
Yes, you're right. The difference is that ESTAR is used for telling someone where you are/were or a temporary emotion.

Eu estou na piscina (I'm on the swimming pool)
Eu estou triste (I'm sad)

The SER is basically to describe yourself.

Eu sou francês (I'm french)
Eu sou tímido (I'm shy)

It is a personal pronoun and yes it is used :
I   je
you   tu
she   elle
he   il
we   nous
you   vous
they   elles, ils
(And when there are a weird rule in french when there are many girls and only one boy we say "ils" the masculine pronoun)

Ah, ok :)

In Portuguese:

I = Eu
You = Tu
He = Ele
She = Ela
We = Nós
You = Vós (used more Vocês instead)
They = Eles / Elas (elas is only used when they is all girls. If it's a mixed group them it's eles)

I don't know if it exists in Portuguese but there is in french "le Vouvoiment" et "le tutoiment".
You use "vous" to talk with someone you don't know or with your boss. For example :
when you go to the pharmacy you asked the seller : "Bonjour, vous avez des pr... ? (Hi have you got co....) (lol).

But when you ask a friend (or someonelse) if he have a candy for example you say : "Est ce que tu as un bonbon ?" because you know him

i don't know if you understand I don't know how to explain.

@Lolo that's talking formally/unformally.
In portuguese we don't use the vós basically, so it's a bit useless to study the verbs on this form. What we use to talk formally is você (in Brazil você is also used for tu). The verb form is basically the same as ele/ela and eles/elas (to more than one person is vocês).

I'm not interested in learning French, but Portuguese would be pretty cool, plus its similar to Spanish which I really want to learn, correct? :)

That's right Jack, however there are false friends (words that are pretty similar but have different meanings).
I'll start tomorrow a bit, it would be nice if they teached me the same things but in french :)
