So. Tomorrow is the 1st semi-final. I'm excited. And as you all probably know, Russia withdrew. And the local Channel 1 won't air ESC at all.

IMHO Finland was robbed. Belgium has a great song, but singing was really bad. And Belgium is in the final. Also Czech Republic in my opinion was much better than Belgium. But even without Finland in the final I will enjoy it.

This year to me is pretty weak. I found the first semi final very boring (too many ballads) and the second seems to be ever worse..

I absolutely love Moldova. But yeah...a bit boring the 1st semifinal. And still, Finland was one of the best. And this is not a biased opinion.

I like Finland's song but i really dislike the singer's tone to be honest, I just don't like listening to her voice. I still think they should have qualified over Australia cause that one note was just too WRONG and yall know which one i'm talking about lol

It's always a matter of taste. I understand, why some people don't like Blackbird for the atmosphere or singer's voice. And while this was a huge disappointment for me, the world didn't end. Life goes on and better luck next year.

Semifinal 1 is the worst because of the huge amount of ballads while the Semifinal 2 is much better for me.

So happy to see Finland out, sorry but I don't like the song, it's cute and beautiful but not for me in ESC. Australia's entry is the worst ever sent in ESC and it didn't deserve to pass while Latvia or Iceland deserved it much more. :(

Really, you don't have anything to be sorry about if you didn't and don't like Finland's entry. Maybe my expectations just were too high. And not in touch with reality. Everyone still has the right to have their own opinion, even if they are different than mine.

But I have to admit that I thought they were going to qualify, I was shocked and pleased at the same time haha.

Also, Finland was never going to win anyway. Would've been nice to be in the final, but really it would've probably been just a consolation prize.

Congrats to the countries, that did qualify. And Sweden seems to qualify even if they don't send their best. As is the case this year. At least in my opinion.

Well it was obvious Sweden was going to qualify as it was something different among so many balads in the first semifinal.

Portugal is reaching the first place in the betting odds, if Italy doesn't win on Saturday, Portugal will do it. :D

I think Italy will still win but it's true that his performance lacked something, felt much flatter than his San Remo's performance. While Salvador's performance was felt by many people as magical moment. Plus everybody loves a underdog.

I don't see anybody from SF2 emerging as a frontrunner, nor do I think UK or France can deliver something good enough to reach top 3 so it's def between Portugal and Italy. Part of me want Portugal to win for the glory, the other part of me (the rational one) knows Italy would deliver a much better show...

Passing by just to say I'm completely shocked and devastated with semi finals lol. I have so much faith in Salvador, although I hated our song at first I think now I see how emotional and good that performance was, and I'm literally so excited to see Portugal doing really well!

Also semi finals killed part of my favorites, I mean... FYR Macedonia (my fave, still hearbroken about it but at least Jana got engaged <3333), FINLAND (I was literally so shocked it didn't make it through), LATVIA, SWITZERLAND, even Estonia.

Serbia would also be part of that list but that performance and vocals... Huuuuuge letdown after being one of my favorites from studio versions. Belgium also, what a letdown I had with Blanche paralyzed at the middle of the stage.

At this point I already hate Italy's song so I'm PRAYING that somehow Portugal pulls a win (still seems surreal to me) or if not us Bulgaria, that kid killed it! Overall I'm satisfied with the qualifiers.

Also, HOW THE FUCK DID CROATIA QUALIFY AGAIN?

I'm also devastated about Macedonia and Switzerland, really, I never felt this way ever with a non qualification in previous years. I mean, Macedonia had their best entry ever and I'm pretty sure they should withdraw because they will never get through the Final again.

I suppose that Switzerland's staging killed all their chances, I want to know why they changed their staging? It was pretty good the one from the national final :(

I feel sad also for Estonia and Serbia.  I still don't get how in hell is Croatia and Belarus in the Final, how?????

Well, now I'm rooting for Israel, Italy and UK to win.

For a second year i've heard completely all songs in this contest.
It's my modest opinion. I am pissed off from "twin songs" in this world. It seems that not only in this contest but generally in the world the limit of original songs is reached. About this contest only Hungary has a real image of Eurovision song in it's pure form – song which represent its country by language, culture and with music with traditional motives. I guess it was the idea of Eurovision in the beginning, in other case the contest will be called "Englishvision" and only english speaking countries with their same music style and tradition will participate in this. Portugal is also close to this but (forgive me Andre :-X) i don't get WHAT THE HELL IS DOING so boring and faceless song in this contest. It was equal to prank for me that it passed and i know that it will be among the first places. I can't even listen it more than maximum 1 minute, it is pure torture to my ears. And no comment for the singer, only if he really has mental problems will recieve my sympathy in other case he is just disgusting but this is song contest after all and i will keep my personal opinion for the singers in this contest. Sweden...catchy but enought with the twin songs as i said. France is the same – boring, boring, faceless, i can't even recognize it among thousand other songs from France which i've heard in my life. Australia – same old story. I guess if it was depending on me there will be no winner. I know that i am too exacting. I am biased toward Bulgaria and Israel of course, it's not a secret. Imri was not so good on live, while Kristian was briliant. The both songs are good. And why not "Beautiful mess" to win? Ater the stupid political song about hate which won last year, why not a song related to the current situation in the world with all the troubles and terrrorism and about love to not take the first place? But no way...Eurovision is not really a song contest since many years so i should expect some same old boring story with a "famous country". And it probably will be Italy, this amazingly dumb song.

If i had to do an ideal ranking it'd be :

1. France
2. Portugal

3. Belgium
4. UK
5. Netherlands
6. Italy

7. Sweden
8. Denmark
9. Moldova
10. Azerbaijan
11. Armenia
12. Israel
13. Poland
14. Belarus
15. Norway
16. Romania

17. Spain
18. Cyprus
19. Greece
20. Australia
21. Austria
22. Germany
23. Hungary
24. Ukraine
25. Croatia
26. Bulgaria

Some thoughts :

- I know not too many people are into Alma's song/performance but tbh i just find the whole thing mesmerizing. It's by far the most dramatic performance without being a ballad or OTT (looking at you Poland) and it gives me LIFE.
- Portugal is magical and he's too precious, i want to protect him.
- Belgium just has the best song this year, not a winning performance sadly
- UK has the best staging for that song, it just merge perfectly it's the work of a genius
- Netherland deserves the world for those vocals and harmonies. Im bald anytime they sing.
- Italy still has a great song but the performance and overselling brought it back to a meh to me.
- the rest is either dated, predictable, boring or plain bad to me.
- And yes i hate on a kid, fight me.

I was honestly surprised, that both Norway and Denmark got to the final from the 2nd semi. Though I really shoudn't be. For me the 2nd semi wasn't anything special over all.

I'm not really sure, who I will be rooting for. I'm still very nervous about Belgium. I still very much like the song, but if Blanche's performance doesn't improve it's bad.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised of Portugal winning. Although in the final Lucie Jones was the only one, who gave me the chills. Blanche of Belgium was also very good.

As a Finn I felt a bit surreal, when Finland won. André, do you feel like this didn't just happen?
