CBS has officially announced that Big Brother USA will return next summer for a 14th season. CBS for a third year in a row has given Big Brother an early renewal because if the continued increase in ratings from the previous year.
Now some questions:
*Can BB14 continue to build upon the ratings like it has since BB10?
*With BB13 managing to average 8 million viewers this year can BB14 build upon that or match it?
*Will CBS invest money into their cash cow?
*Will CBS finally make Big Brother in HD?
Next year won't be a complete All-Stars season, producers are casting for BB14. When the producers did BB7 they did not open the casting process up. So we could potentially have a complete new group or a mix like this year.
And if anyone is wandering here is a reason the producers have said that BBUSA might not be in HD:
There’s a reason why the show isn’t likely to be in high definition any time soon, and it has to do with the way Big Brother is produced. Rich Meehan explained, “We would love it, but it’s very difficult because of the amount of footage and tape that we have. And as fast as we have to turn it around, and the sheer space that it would require to have all that media in our Avids would be massive.”
---My retort is that the USA producers should take a look at other versions of BB around the world like the UK. If the UK producers can film their version in HD, post various clips online, make various clips available to their spin-off show and air 1 hour long episodes seven days a week then there is no excuse for BBUSA not to be in HD period. The USA producers have plenty of time to put two highlight episodes together plus 25 minutes of House footage on Thursday. I am thinking cheap and lazy on both the production and CBS. Because of the continued rating increases plus the fact CBS most likely isn't paying as much for BB as it did back in 2000 they should defiantly spend the cash and upgrade the program.
