i had to look, and it means "South Africa" in xhosa (one of the many languages spoken in South Africa) but it's also part of the popular culture.

Like I said, it is originally used to describe the region this xhosa people lived in but it's not part of the popular culture in South Africa including apparently its use in Zulu to say the "South".

Yes, it's a very diverse country, rich of many different cultures! But I guess english unites most of them.

Doe Afrikaans niet vergeten, ik denk dat is ook een heel belangrijke taal (I know it's Dutch not Afrikaans, but I don't speak Afrikaans and the languages are very similar)

http://teeveetee.blogspot.com/2013/09/big-brother-mzansi-set-for-february.html

Like I predicted, Big Brother Africa, oops meant South Africa, will be produced by and for a black audience. Starting February 2014. ::)
We needed this show back to portray the diverse cultures living in South Africa like the first two seasons. But of course thats not where the money is.

Logo looks shit and lazy. Hope its not final.

I quite like the logo - the original BB logo text still looks great, plus it incorporates an eye and an abstract house too - so it's kind of perfect!

Is this going to be in addition to Big Brother Africa or in place of it?

I'm guessing it will be an addition. Nothing has been mentioned yet.
BBSA could be on from February - April 2014, then BB Africa from September - December 2014.

Big Brother Mzansi 2014 (South Africa)
« Reply #17 on: December 02, 2013, 03:42:13 PM »

Big Brother – and millions of television viewers – will be watching every move of a group of outgoing, yet house-bound South Africans again in January 2014. M-Net announced that its proudly local brand, Mzansi Magic, will produce another South African edition of Big Brother, and this time the show will aptly be called Big Brother Mnszai.

Yolisa Phahle, M-Net’s director of Local Interest Channels, says hosting a reality show of the magnitude of Big Brother is a logical next step for Mzansi Magic. “The multiple requests over the years for another local version of this supernova television show, together with the overwhelming viewer response to Big Brother Africa signaled that it will be a sure-fire hit in our market.”

In a bold move for the era of television at the time, M-Net and format owner and production company Endemol SA, introduced the concept of realty television to SA audiences in 2001 with the very first 24/7 Big Brother broadcasts in the southern hemisphere. Big Brother and the irreverent inhabitants of the specially-built Big Brother House immediately grabbed the imagination of the nation, frequented newspaper headlines and even inspired academic thesis and debates.

Then, after a second South African season in 2002, Big Brother ventured into the entire continent, where it continues to create waves of excitement and viewer participation season after season.

We value our longstanding relationship with M-Net as a company and look forward to be collaborating with another channel in its family of brands.”

But who will the presenter be? Who may enter? When will the contestants be chosen? How much money is up for grabs? And, what will the theme be?

“This country-specific Big Brother will be filled with twists and turns, just like the Pan-African ones,” says Pillay. “More will be revealed at a later stage.”

Big Brother Mzansi will be the 11th season produced by companies M-Net and Endemol SA. This includes two seasons of Big Brother South Africa, and eight seasons of Big Brother Africa and Big Brother Nigeria.

Noticed this trending in the UK earlier.   Seems every HM got a secret mission on entering the house:

Kat and Mzamo are to welcome all the Housemates into the house
MK has to act narcissistic and talk about himself all evening
Loko has to chew gum continually
Mandla is playing a crazed hypochondriac
Jase and Lexi will be Jacuzzi bound
Vanessa and Poolie who will have to learn all the surnames of the Housemates
Thando’s Mission is to secretly collect a piece of clothing from each Housemate and wear it without them noticing
Sol and Lola have to dance whenever LED lights on the diary room door flash

The housemates have also been told the series is 91 days, but the viewers were told tonight it's actually just 63 days long.

Anyone got pics of the house/chamber - can't find any on the website.  Saw the studio on Twitter earlier - it looks tiny.
