Channel Nine has confirmed that Big Brother Australia will return for its eleventh series next year, as Tim Dormer beat Jade Pietrantonio and Tahan Lew-Fatt to become its 2013 winner.
The current edition of the show came to an end earlier today during a bumper live finale, when host Sonia Kruger announced that Tim had taken the crown by the narrowest of margins.
The 29-year-old – who made headlines worldwide last year when he streaked on the plane pop superstar Rihanna hired to transport guests on her ’777 Tour’ – topped the public vote with 36%, only 2% ahead of runner-up Jade’s 34% share.
Despite being one of the bigger characters among the housemates, Tim wasn’t given a full interview, but after being reminded that he’d won the AU$250,000 grand prize he joked: “I don’t know what to do with it, I’m gonna need a bigger wallet!”
He was known for his gameplaying and strategic moves, which included putting himself up for eviction during a nominee swap.
Jade was also given little airtime following her exit, but was surprised with the news that she’d recieve a second place prize of AU$10,000 and a top-of-the-range 65″ 4K Sony television.
Earlier, Tahan – who was nominated for eight evictions during her 101 days in the house – left in third place with 30% of the final vote, earning her a consolation prize of $5,000.
She said of the result: “It’s a huge achievement for me. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for people voting, I could have gone went at any point I was up.”
Meanwhile, Kruger also stated that Big Brother Australia will return in 2014, despite this year’s series experiencing a significant drop in ratings.
It will be the third edition of the show to air on Nine after they revived it from a four-year break, with prospective contestants now able to register their interest for auditions at bigbrother.com.au.
